iPad and Screen Real Estate
So I use a VM'd OS X to work (start to work) on some iOS development. I've found that my screen space within the VM is rather lacking. Now while the iPad's resolution isn't staggering (a mere 1024x768) the extra space could be handy, especially with the dozen windows I normally have open while working on a projects.
Enter Air Display from Avatron. An app which works in conjunction with OS X and Windows boxes. The one catch being that on windows vista or 7 aero effects are disabled while the iPad is connected. (Cosmetic in nature, but one my OCD self couldn't abide) The iPad connects via Wi-fi. The the host and the client need to be on the same network. This is a little tricky from within the VM, but works none the less. Simply add another network adapter in Bridged Mode (Oracle VirtualBox), and you'll have access to the network the host is on.
After that, install the software on the Mac, and configure whether you want it to auto connect when the iPad is detected. (This works with the iPhone or iTouch as well) There seems to be an issue with the VM crashing if you have display properties open and rotate the iPad. When the properties are closed you can rotate to your hearts content.
Overall a nice new use for the iPad. (outside of the ssh tunneling and VNC capability)
